Money in the Real World Learning Week (Ages 10–14)
Details
Real money skills for real life.
Money in the Real World is a hands-on 3-day learning experience designed to help young people aged 10–14 build confidence with budgeting, spending, saving and everyday financial decisions.
Instead of worksheets filled with disconnected money sums, learners work through realistic situations they may actually encounter. They’ll manage a weekly budget, compare current prices, calculate discounts, investigate subscriptions and recurring costs, and discover what happens when the money runs out.
Across the three days, your learner will:
- Build and manage a realistic $100 weekly budget
- Balance food, entertainment, wants and savings
- Adapt their budget when unexpected costs appear
- Compare real prices and consider value for money
- Calculate percentage discounts
- Complete a real-world $30 spending challenge
- Investigate monthly and yearly subscription costs
- Explore how small regular purchases add up over time
- Problem-solve when their weekly money runs out
- Reflect on their own spending and saving decisions
Activities are flexible and can be simplified, extended or completed with adult support depending on your learner’s needs. Calculators are welcome. The focus is on understanding and applying money skills, not completing pages of repetitive sums.
